Humans have kept cats (or the other way around), since ancient Egypt, where the Goddess of the home was Bastet the cat. She was also considered, as the domesticated cat, the protector of the fields and home from infestations of vermin. The Goddess Bastet, sometimes took on the warlike aspect of a lioness called Sektmet. The Egyptians may have been saved by domesticated cats from a rodent infestation and Bastet developed from the adoration for her feline companions. Bastet was the daughter of Ra the sun God and played a significant role in ancient Egyptian religion. Many ancient religions believed that cats are exalted souls. These religions believed that cats are special companions
or guides for humans. Cats are said to be all-knowing, but
are mute so they cannot influence a humans’ decision making.
In Japan, the cat symbol of “Good Fortune” is called the “Maneki Neko”. In Norse mythology, Freyja is depicted as riding a chariot drawn by cats. Freyja is said to be “the Goddess of Love, Beauty and Fertility. There are also negative cat superstitions in history. For instance, if a “black cat crosses your path you will have bad luck” or “a black cat is considered a Witches’ Familiar”. But, there is truth to one piece of history, that the wide spread extermination of cats in Europe’s Medieval Times, meant that this began the epidemic of the “Black Plague”, since the cats could not kill the rats that were infected by the plague-ridden fleas. Another “Old Wives Tale” or myth about cats, is that cats have “nine lives” or even
said to have “seven”. This myth is attributed to the natural
swiftness and agility cats exhibit to escape life-threatening situations. This escape technique lends itself to the evidence to the myth that cats fall on their feet, because of an inner-built twisting reaction that enables cats to land on their feet, again this is also a myth. But, the truth betold, our cats can be injured or killed by falling from high places. Cats, like all felines walk ‘directly register’, which means- they place each hind paw (almost) directly in the paw print of the corresponding
forepaw. This action minimizes noise and visible tracks.
Cats walk very precisely. Cats can sleep more than most animals, especially when they are older, this helps them conserve energy. The sleep period varies on an average between 12-16 hours a day. Some sleep as much as 20 hours within a 24 hour period. The term “cat nap” refers to the cat’s ability to fall into a light sleep for a short period of time and has entered the English Vocabulary-meaning “someone who nods off for a few minutes- this is called “taking a cat nap”. A cats temperament can vary depending on the socialization of the cat and the breed. If the cat has an ‘Oriental’ body type, it tends to be thinner and
more active, while a ‘heavier-boned’ or ‘cobby’ body type
cat is a bit less active. On these pages, I have a variety of subjects for Cat-lovers, from cat health care to human-toilet training your cat to cat pregnancy and even cat food recipes. So,check-out these and other cat issues.
Complete Cat Training
Due to a cats’ oral structure, cats use a variety of vocalization for communications, including meowing, purring, hissing, growling, squeaking, chirping, clicking and grunting. Also, cats use many types of body language movements form communication too. One of these body movements is the way the ears move for hearing. Cats have thirty-two individual muscles in each ear, allowing for a cat to move each ear independently of the other. This is called “Directional Hearing”. When a cat becomes angry or scared, the cat will lay it’s ears back on it’s head, accompanied by growling or hissing. Cats turn their ears back and forth when they play or are listening to sounds coming behind them. Watch for the direction the cat’s ears are
facing to get that most important clue to the cats’ mood. Cats ambush or pounce and immobilize vertebrate prey similar to those as tigers and leopards, overpowering such prey. One element of cat hunting behavior is they present human owners with prey. When they bring the prey home to the human, mice or birds, the cat is teaching their human how to hunt: just like they would teach their own kittens. The funny thing is that indoor cats will bring their humans small household items, such as watches, pens, pencils and other objects that they can carry in their mouths, this is how they retain their hunting instincts.
How to Toilet Train Your Cat to Use the Human Toilet
Daily attention needs to be paid to the cat’s litter box or the problem with a ammonia smell occur. That smell becomes so overpowering that the cat will actually stop using the litter box altogether. Also the litter box poses an enormous risk to pregnant women, their fetus’ and immuno-compromised individuals with the risk of toxoplasmosis transmissions. Indoor cats are not usually exposed to the disease and are not carriers. Again, cleaning the litter box helps in stopping these diseases.
But, there is another form of cat litter sanitation. Cats can be trained to use the Human Toilet, this does completely eliminate the litter box and the unpleasant odor. Also, the need for the use of the landfill space is disposed of. Although, traini9ng may involve four to six weeks depending on you and your cat, it is so worth it. Don’t be alarmed if you (your cat) have a couple of accidents along the way in this process, but it will be
worth it. And it is a funny site to see. Just check-out the picture on the second page link here.
Cats are seasonally “Polyestrous”, this means that cats have many periods of heat over the year. Their heat lasts about 4 to 7 days if the female is bred. If she has not been bred, the heat lasts many days longer. Many males are attracted to a female feline in heat. The males will fight over her and the winner will attempt to mate with her, but at first she will reject him. But, eventually the female does allow the male to mate with her. Actually, she will mate with more than one male while in her heat, meaning different kittens in the litter may have different fathers. During mating, the female will give a loud yowling sound as the male pulls out, then after words clean herself thoroughly. If the male tries to engage the female again, she will attack him. The gestation period for cats is approximately 63-65 days. The size of the litter could be 3 to 5 kittens depending on if it is the first litter. Kittens are weaned between six and seven weeks, then are ready to go to homes at about ten weeks. Kittens become sexually mature around 5-10 months of age for females and 5-7 months of age for males.
Cats are extremely sensitive mammals. They are attuned for hunting with advanced hearing, eyesight, taste and touch receptors. Cats vision at night is superior to humans but daylight vision for cats are inferior. A cats’ sense of smell is said to be about fourteen times stronger than a humans. Over time a cats, one of two genes necessary to taste sweetness may have been lost in the cat family. To avoid problems with navigation and sensation cats have dozens of moveable vibrissae (whiskers) on the face are the width of the body, unless the cat’s whiskers are bitten shorter by another cat in a battle , fight or in strong play. When engaging in feline-to-feline combat for self-defense, territory dominance or reproduction, fighting cats make themselves appear more impressive and threatening by arching their backs and having their fur raise to increase their size. Cats, even act this way while playing.
When cats attack in fighting or playing, a cat will slap their opponents face and body with their forepaws as well as biting, but serious damages are rare. The loser runs away with just a few scratches to the face and maybe bites to the ears. Cats, also throw themselves to the ground in a defensive posture to use a raking motion with their powerful hind legs. Domestic cats and kittens are known for their love of play. Play mimics the process of hunting and it helps kittens learn to stalk, capture and kill their prey. Cats cannot resist ropes or dangling string or anything being drawn across the floor to entice any cat.
If string is ingested, it can become caught in the cats’
stomach or intestines, it can cause sickness or death. For safer play, use either a laser light (but beware to keep it out of the cats’ eyes), or use a regular flashlight is much better. It is an old standard for decades and can even be used for deaf animals to play with. Cats will even engage in play fighting with their human companions. But be careful of the claws and biting. “Cat-scratch Fever” is a real condition, if you do not clean a scratch from a cat (because of a cat’s unsanitary litter box) right away.

Cats feed on small prey such as insects, birds, and rodents. Feral and House cats who feed freely eat about 8-16 small meals in a day. Even so, adult cats can adapt to being fed once a day. Cats are classified as obligate carnivores. Taurine (an essential organic acid) that is contained in flesh, is one acid a cat cannot produce. This is why cats must eat flesh to survive. Although, cats meat-oriented preferences, it is still quite common for a cat to supplement it’s carnivorous diet with small amounts of grass, leaves, shrubs, houseplants or other small plant matter.
